About the Client

Libby Perkins is a Self Published Author and Wellness Consultant based on the East Coast of Australia. She offers a unique combination of modalities and works intimately with both individuals and organisations, in-person and online, to promote healing and wellbeing. Her area of speciality is to support people through times of adversity and change to become healthier living eco-systems, more in alignment with their own true nature.

Where We Started

When Libby reached out to me, she had just completed writing her very first book, 108 Days 108 Ways - How I Save the World and wanted to create a truly unique website which authentically reflected her personality, her professional and creative skills along with offering her book and services to those in need.

Some of the custom features she wanted to add were symbolic elements from her actual (yes, handmade!) collages into the website graphics and banners, calming background music and have a smooth and easy checkout process for her book and services.

We got to work while the book was being designed by the book designer.

As soon as I saw the quality of the work you had done for other clients, I knew it was a great match. Thank you from the depths of my heart for pouring your energy and care into the project! Together we published a book. And created a very beautiful website that I am so so happy with! It perfectly represents me.

As I have said many times now, you really are amazing Priyanka — in so so many ways. So skilled, so efficient, so reliable, so creative, so professional, so kind, so dedicated… and the list goes on… just faultless really! And always willing to test new ideas.

I can’t remember working with anyone who has supported me in a creative project as seamlessly as you have. I could not have done it without you. No way!

I would absolutely and totally recommend PB Design Studio to anyone with a well meaning, holistic business who is looking for 5 star support to create a strategy, brand ID and website, and any other tools to promote products and services either locally or globally.

THE PROCESS

Phase 1: Website Strategy

We started with a kick-off call to understand Libby’s brand, vision and goals which would form the basis of the strategy for a state of the art design. Some of the words Libby used to describe her brand were — clean, fresh, beautiful, quirky, interesting, captivating, original and worshipping nature in every way.

These were her must have’s for the overall design:

  1. The main theme of the website was to be about getting through transitions, about supporting people to love themselves as they are and to find anchors and unique ways to move from challenge into strength.

  2. The primary goal of the website would be to encourage sales of the 108 Days 108 Ways book and get enquiries for Libby’s Wellness Consultation services.

  3. Incorporating calming music/nature tracks throughout the website to give visitors a tangible sense of being reconnected to something that is powerful, healing and stabilizing.

  4. Highlighting quotes and images from the 108 Days 108 Ways book about self care, nature, Yoga, prayer and Ayurveda.

  5. Highlighting testimonials from her clients.

  6. Having seamless processes for checkout and booking Wellness Consultation sessions.

With the above in mind, I crafted a strategy with the following priorities:

  1. Launch a brand new website with e-commerce functionality. The book would be the only product for sale on the website so we didn’t want to have a ‘Shop’ page, like a traditional e-commerce website.

  2. Have a simple checkout process for the book and use a form for booking Wellness Consultation sessions.

  3. Create a unique brand identity and style in line with Libby’s vision and values. This would involve carefully selecting symbolic elements from photos of Libby’s handmade collages and embedding them seamlessly within the professional photos for the website, to create one of a kind, digital collage versions for the website banners, selecting custom fonts to match her captivating, yet quirky style and selecting copyright free nature tracks.

Phase 2: Website Design

We then created wireframes and mockups for the website, keeping the above objectives in mind. Some of the design choices are highlighted below:

We created the website banners by adding in elements from Libby’s original collages. I did this using Photoshop. The idea was to create digital versions of Libby’s handmade collages to amplify the uniqueness of her personal brand and website.

For example, the website banner below uses some of the elements from the collage on the left (indicated using circles). As you can see, the elements have been seamlessly integrated with the main image using superior Photoshopping skills to make it look like they are a part of the image.

In order to encourage sales of the book, we placed the call-to-action buttons for ordering the book above the fold on all the relevant pages.

We skipped the ‘Add to Cart’ and opted for a simpler checkout process since the book would be the only product for sale on the website.

Libby picked the quotes and testimonials to go on each page and I complemented them with contrasting colors, strikingly unconventional fonts and beautiful imagery from the book. We also added in background nature tracks. The result is an audiovisual delight which allows her visitors to have an immersive experience!

Libby did not want to integrate a scheduling calendar for booking her Wellness Consultation services directly from the website because of the difficulties of of coordinating international time zones. We solved this problem by adding a page with a contact form to facilitate the booking process, at the same offering clear instructions on what to expect after someone submits the form.

Phase 3: Website Development + Handoff

After finalizing the design, we developed the website in Squarespace. We also implemented several customizations on the website such as redirecting people to a separate page after making a purchase (instead of the default), allowing the background music to autoplay on the pages etc. I used custom code to implement these changes.

We provided Libby with a document and video tutorials on how to navigate around the new website so that she would be able to easily track the orders of her book in the Squarespace backend, download sales reports etc.

The Results

Libby was ecstatic that I was able to bring her voice and vision to life! Overall, the result is a truly beautiful and easy-to-navigate website with an immersive user experience that Libby is excited to send people to. Nothing brings you more joy than when your client sends you a thoughtful gift all the way from Australia to appreciate your work. Thank you Libby!

I often continue to work with my web design clients after launch, offering content strategy and marketing services based on their individual requirements. Libby and I continued to work together to market the 108 Days 108 Ways book using social media ads and PR outreach.
